History

In 1978 two prime blocks of Allegheny County owned land, between Grant and Smithfield Streets and Third and Fourth Avenues, came up for public sale.

Oxford Development invested in their grand architectural plan and purchased the two acres in the heart of Pittsburgh.

The challenge was to help fill the pressing need for new space in downtown Pittsburgh, and to create a building that set high standards of beauty and functionality for the city's future.

By March 1982 One Oxford Centre opened its doors, beating the construction pace of Pittsburgh’s Renaissance II competition.

The 45 story aluminum and glass octagonal towers were one of the boldest statements on the skyline.

The Atrium, traversed by glass-walled elevators, created a new elegance for shopping and dining with over 20,000 square feet of retail space.
